I'm Carole, living in London, happily married and mum to two amazing boys.I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Rectal Cancer in April 2010. Surgery took place in November 2010 and I now have a permanent colostomy...Spinal mets were then diagnosed in October 2011...In January 2012 I was told of further spread to the hip area (multiple lesions)..My life expectancy is now 6-9 months. Walk alongside me on the last part of my experience with this..

Today......

I have woken up full of a cold :-((

My throat is sore, my nose is completely blocked, I'm sneezing for England and I have a bloody temperature.....arrrgghhh!

Am now going to 'up' all my immune support stuff and keep my fingers crossed that I can shake this off in a couple of days or my op will be postponed and I really don't want to have to mentally prepare for this all over again. Going back to bed now to rest and repair myself.

Am fed up because apart from the possibility of having to postpone my op, I had planned a nice night out with Hazel and Christine from work this evening (last supper!).....Sorry girls - I was really looking forward to it but got to prioritise things at the moment.

Rab had this cold two weeks ago and it took him over a week to shift it, Dj went down with it over the weekend and it took him 4 days to get rid of it (he's got a fairly good immune system despite his lack of veggies and fruit) so I'm hoping that as my immune system has been functioning really well lately, 3 days maximum....(she says whilst sniffling into the tissues and sitting here with a stinking headache) :-(

Keep your fingers crossed for me

as my ol' Dad....... (was a life long Gunners' supporter from E17 - mum came from Highbury -, my kid brother is still an ardent Spurs man even tho' he now lives in JO'berg SA, and I, as a rugby player, supported Chelsea just to wind up the both of them )..... would have said.

Get shot of that cold soonest

  3. Hi Carole
Sorry to hear that you have this cold. Is it worth using the 'email' trick of onions in the bedroom do you think? I recently lost my voice which continued on and off for three weeks. I used onions and increased by Vit D which seemed to work pretty well.
    My best wishes...

  4. Chez, tell me more about the onions in the bedroom trick - I'm intrigued :-)

I do take Vit D plus numerous other supplements so I'm *hopeful* that I'll shake this off fairly quickly...but we'll see.

  6. Carole, will search my inbox and relocate the onion forward. Basically, cut the top and bottom off an onion and place it in bowl in bedroom while sleeping. Vit D is increased dosage so will find that email and let you know.
I am in Auistralia and just about to go to bed so it will be my morning.

  7. Sorry to hear about your cold, sore throat. It could be from stress about the operation.

And you've recently been so healthy with being ill. Not fair!

Fingers crossed you're well enough for Op to go ahead next week. Tell James (James, if you're reading this . . .) to let me know where you are and AS SOON AS you can have visitors - last day in the office tomorrow, so free to do what I like thereafter! xx

  10. Sis, am sure I'll shake it by the weekend, as you say it's only Thursday now.

    Lou, you're right NOT fair!
Don't worry, your details are on the email being sent to J to contact after surgery. He will also update the blog as and when info becomes available.

Rose - boiled then cooled lemondade? I'm assuming you don't drink it warm?
I have brandy here - might stick some of that into some lemon and honey later on before bed.
