I got my scan date after my meeting this Monday...the appointment arrived yesterday in the post - 8am Monday, 20th....
That was quick eh - nice one Nursey! :-)
Dj arrived back from Germany tonight...he's had 'the best time ever'. Full of excitement about all the things they've done, mountain walking, water park, phantasia theme park, exploring the local area, meeting Germans, disco (which was 'boring' apparently - but Dj doesn't really 'do' disco's...)
The best news ever for me was that the travel meds we gave him this time really do seem to have worked. He managed to get from the UK at 9pm travelled through the whole night by coach and ferry and arrived in Germany around 11.00am the next morning after driving through France, Belgium and Germany and didn't throw up once.
Now, those of you who've had the pleasure of travelling with Dj in the past will know what a massive achievement this is...normally he can't do more than 15 minutes in a moving vehicle without being ill, repeatedly...So, at last we've found something that works for him - YAY :-)
He organised his bag really well too - I'm impressed that he thought to separate his dirty stuff from his unworn stuff...and I'm pleased to see my little boy is becoming a young man.
He's now gone to bed, totally exhausted and the last thing he asked as I left the room was "Can I put my Xbox on tomorrow?"....
Yep, Dj's home and life is back to normal once again
:-)
A blog about Rectal Cancer, and the roller-coaster it takes you on. No matter how sick you start to feel you just can't get off until it stops - one way or another - and in the meantime life goes on pretty much as normal. So this is a blog both about rectal cancer and life going on as normally as possible... :-) Please do feel free to leave comments, comments are great :-)
About Me
- Carole
- I'm Carole, living in London, happily married and mum to two amazing boys.I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Rectal Cancer in April 2010. Surgery took place in November 2010 and I now have a permanent colostomy...Spinal mets were then diagnosed in October 2011...In January 2012 I was told of further spread to the hip area (multiple lesions)..My life expectancy is now 6-9 months. Walk alongside me on the last part of my experience with this..
Carole, not being familiar with DJ's past habits associated with travelling, I can only use my own experience. I am so happy that you have found a successful treatment making his life so much easier.
ReplyDeleteGood news regarding the speed of the bookings for scans. Only way to give you a full night's sleep!
Always in my thoughts special lady. After a real mix-up with my ISP it does seem that we have issues resolved.
Live life, laugh and laugh♥
Great to hear that your appointment has come through so quickly!
ReplyDeleteAnd I bet that you are glad that DJ is back safe and sound.
The travel sickness meds that you gave to him seem to have done the trip,,,,not a lot worse than having to travel and feeling sick. Fab that he had such a great time.......seems to me that he deserves to have his Xbox on today.
Take care and good luck on 20th...
Hugs.
Carol
Really good news about the scan coming through so quick. Remember to ask 'when do I get the results' before you leave, and then you know if its days or weeks.
ReplyDeleteHave the bloods been taken? I get my LFTS and FBCs back in 5 working days, and the GP staff print them out for me. The CEA would take longer?
Can I ask what travel meds have worked for DJ? J gets travel sick on a coach, or in the back seat of a car. Seems to be ok on a train or plane. I've used homeopathic up to now which seem to work. But he has lots of short(ish) distance travel coming up with visits to University open days, including the school taking them to one by coach which will take 1 1/2 hours.
Hi Fiona,
ReplyDeleteWe've tried everything in the past ...What we've found that works 100% is Phenergan tablets (25mg)
One the night before travel and another one the morning of travel.
Phenergan are usually given for allergies but they also work on travel sickness *in some people*
One point though is that if you're going to give them to J before Uni visits, make sure you try them out in advance in-case they cause drowsiness. They DON'T make Dj sleep at all - but I know some people are affected and feel very sleepy and obviously you don't want him nodding off during a Uni visit.
So experiment before he actually needs to visit, just in-case.
I get all my results, bloods and scan the same time. Colorectal nurse will email me when all are ready - around 10 days after the scan she said - so I'm thinking I'll know more by the end of this month.
Hi Carol,
ReplyDeleteYes it's nice to have him back...I'd forgotten how much I miss his incessant chatter - lol
Chez,
Glad to have you back with us again - ISP issues are GRRRRRR! :-)
That lovely little grand-daughter of yours is a great reason for YOU to keep smiling for sure xx
Never understood the fascination with dancing, and things of that nature. Maybe it's my lack of dance moves. Regardless, I'm with Dj in that respect...boring!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad he had fun, Germany sounds absolutely awesome. Even glader that the medication you gave him worked a treat. I don't think it would have been as fun, had he been puking throughout his journey.
And even glader-er (there's no way that's an official word but I've decided to make it one as of today) that you received a date for your scan so quickly! Give the nurse a hug from me, good on her!
Let us know what the scan says asap. And give Dj a big hug for me. Tell him we are so happy he had a wonderful time xx
Will do Lamia....and hugs right back at ya too :-)
ReplyDeleteSend our love to everyone

Quick question aunty,
ReplyDeleteWhat part of Germany did Dj go to? I'm intrigued by the mentioning of mountain walking....
Also, apologies for the comment above. Clearly misspelled 'gladder'. Absolutely atrocious.
Hi hun,
ReplyDeleteHe went to a place called Boppard, on the Rhein. Part of the trip was to go up the mountain in these cable cars (which I admit I really didn't like the look of but....)and then walk down later on after seeing the Eagles and the view.. Anyway, they've changed the rules and now under 13's can't use the cable cars ( :-))..) so they walked up and then down the mountain instead..no wonder he slept quite well at night!
He really liked it though - I've never been to Germany so might pop across at some point.

Thanks so much for that. Sounds absolutely gorgeous. It's officially been put on my list of places to go.

Finally some progress and hopefully lots of good news in the near future.! Carla
ReplyDeleteGood news you got the scan date. Glad DJ managed to travel so well and had a great time.
ReplyDeleteBack online now after one month so can follow your blog again! Until the next bill arrives!! LOL!!
hugs sis xxxxxxxx
Hi Carla,
ReplyDeleteYep got my fingers crossed and I know that lots of you have done the same for me - thank you :-)
Sis,
What *are* you Greeks like eh - LOL... Just pay your bills and stop waiting to get bailed out all the time hahahaha (if *only* eh...)
Lotsaluv xxxx
Just checking to see if this stupid system will actually allow me to post - never mind whether it is as 'Anonymous' or not!
ReplyDelete(Louise) xx
hahaha indeed, "if only" my employer would pay me it would help but she's got no money either! LOL! We are waiting for the tourists to spend some of their money in local businesses but the ALL INCLUSIVE have killed the poor Greeks :(
ReplyDeleteMaybe we will go to Germany in the winter for work, it sure sounds nice by the sound of your blog.
Hope all went ok with the scan last Monday and you wont have to wait too long for all the test results.
