About Me

I'm Carole, living in London, happily married and mum to two amazing boys.I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Rectal Cancer in April 2010. Surgery took place in November 2010 and I now have a permanent colostomy...Spinal mets were then diagnosed in October 2011...In January 2012 I was told of further spread to the hip area (multiple lesions)..My life expectancy is now 6-9 months. Walk alongside me on the last part of my experience with this..

Friday and it's sunny .......:-)

Today I woke up to lovely 'spring' sunshine and decided that me and the bag are doing something together that we've not done before.....

I'll let you know what it was and how I got on later.......

Any guesses? :-)))

  1. Hmmmm...... very intriguing. I'm guessing you may be about to share a proper soak in the bath? (unless you've already achieved that goal and I've missed the blog)
Many thanks for your reply to my previous comment. Apologies for the typing errors, it was the wine! To answer your question, no Stevie isn't having any follow up chemo. He did have pre surgery chemoradiation like you and, also like you he had the skin burned off his backside! Not nice (as you well know). For Stevie, the surgery was the final part of his treatment, unless the sodding thing makes an encore. He had keyhole surgery like you but, ended up with open surgery too as the tumour was so deep. He struggled to manage his pain for a while but improved loads once the (4!)drains were removed. He's not too impressed with his new plumbing either.... Enjoy the beautiful spring day Carole and I look forward to reading about what you and your bag got up to! Much love, Nicky x

  2. My wife, the bag, and I have a threesome all the time! . . . oops, I hope that was the answer, or was that just too much information? :-) :-) :-O

Sorry, it is sunny and nice and warm here as well, and I feel so much better that we are actually doing something about "it".

  9. Swimming with DJ? I yearn to swim again, I had no issues with my ileostomy swimming but having this damn PICC in prevents me going near water :(

  10. So...you went swimming?????
If so that sounds like a very positive move.
    Sunshine is a great 'lifter'.
Hope that you carry on feeling better daily, and if you did go swimming, I hope that it was a fantastic experience and that all went well!
    Take care....

  11. Hi Lou,
Yes still sunny here so far :-) Temperature in Rhodes Town yesterday was 21c - BIG improvement on back home!

Carol, no swimming but lots of walking on the sandy beach, listening to birds, watching local (stray) cats and village life.
Am feeling rested already and got another 5 days here yet :-)

    Catch you all later xx

  18. Hi Carole was passed your blog by Lisa - would you be interested in writing a small piece on signs and symptoms of rectal cancer in young people (ie under 60 who don't get screened) for my blog www.mumsthatwork.com

  19. Hi Gillian,

    Yes indeed I would.
I've been looking into all the schemes to bring about increased awareness in the UK but nearly all are aimed at the 60+ age group and none mention RECTAL cancer at all, it's 'bowel cancer' which some may find confusing.

I want to raise awareness for ALL age groups.
I'll contact you via your blog :-)
